The heat pump warranty reality checklist

A “10-year warranty” that covers only parts can cost $500 to $2,100 per covered repair in labor. Ask for parts and labor in writing.

  1. 1.Does the warranty cover LABOR or just parts?
  2. 2.Who is the warranty administrator (manufacturer, third party, or dealer)?
  3. 3.What is the registration deadline?
  4. 4.Does coverage transfer if you sell the home?
  5. 5.What components are specifically excluded?
  6. 6.Is there a deductible or service fee on a claim?
  7. 7.What is the contractor obligated to do if the claim is denied?
